Entrepreneurship and Innovation, BSBA

The Entrepreneurship and Innovation major prepares you for starting new ventures, as well as positions in organizations that propose, analyze and implement entrepreneurial growth strategies. You will learn many important topics related to business planning, managing family businesses, social entrepreneurship, managing creativity and innovation, managing risk and entrepreneurial finance.

Along with preparing you to start your own business, this major will teach you to use your creativity to solve business problems or help existing organizations launch new products and enter new markets.

Learning happens outside the classroom. Get involved.

  • Vantage Ventures at Vantage Point is a facility with a strong entrepreneurial culture and easy access to thought leaders throughout the state. It provides a co-working and experiential classroom for students to work with startups.
  • This major provides many opportunities for hands-on learning. Students work very closely with the Encova Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship where they function as consultants to local business and industries. Students also compete in business plan competitions, which allows the student to improve presentation skills and teaches them how to “pitch” an idea or product.
  • The Morris L. Hayhurst LaunchLab offers guidance and assistance through pitch competitions, grant applications, workshops and more.
  • The Becker Academic Engagement Success Center offers tutoring, including a special supplemental instruction program for students taking introductory business courses. Study groups are led by recent students who were successful in the courses.

How does this degree prepare students for a career?

Sales Managers

Plan, direct, or coordinate the actual distribution or movement of a product or service to the customer. Coordinate sales distribution by establishing sales territories, quotas, and goals and establish training programs for sales representatives. Analyze sales statistics gathered by staff to determine sales potential and inventory requirements and monitor the preferences of customers.

Conduct retail activities of businesses operating exclusively online. May perform duties such as preparing business strategies, buying merchandise, managing inventory, implementing marketing activities, fulfilling and shipping online orders, and balancing financial records.
