Zoom Call Center Text Messaging Privacy Statement – ITS Service Desk
West Virginia University utilizes Zoom for its centralized support units across campus (“Service Centers”) that provide assistance to employees, enrolled students, and others including parents or potential students (“Subscribers”). Zoom offers an optional SMS/Text Service (“Service”) for Subscribers who contact Service Centers and choose to receive text messages from them.
This privacy statement applies only to the information sent or received via this Service as utilized by the Information Technology Services Service Desk, hereafter referred to as Service Center, and explains WVU’s practices concerning the collection, use, and disclosure of personally identifiable information (“PII”) sent or received via this Service. Information collected for this Service will be used only as outlined in this privacy statement.
Terms of Service
To opt-in to receive text messages from this Service Center, text 304-293-4444 or 877-327-9260. Upon your opt-in to this Service, you will receive a text message from the Service Center confirming your consent to opt in. By opting into this Service, you expressly consent to receive non-marketing and marketing text messages from this Service Center. Message frequency will vary.
WVU does not charge for this Service; however, message and data rates may apply to each text message sent or received in connection with this Service. Please contact your mobile telephone carrier for pricing plans.
Information Collected or Received
By opting into this Service, you agree to the collection, use, and disclosure of your PII as described in this statement and you agree to comply with the terms outlined in this statement for use of this Service. If you disagree with any part of this privacy statement, please do not opt into this Service.
When you elect to participate in this Service, WVU will automatically collect the sent messages and submitted replies to those messages. WVU will collect your name and mobile phone number. Providing this data is voluntary; however, not providing the requested information may affect WVU’s ability to deliver effective communications to you via this text messaging Service. Subscribers should NEVER provide Sensitive PII such as Social Security Number, protected health information, bank account information, or credit card number to WVU via this Service.
Disclosure of Information
Your PII will be accessed only by the WVU Service Center using this Service to manage your relationship with us. WVU may also share PII with third-parties who have a contract for services with the University as identified in our Information Privacy Policy located at: https://it.wvu.edu/policies-and-procedures/privacy/information-privacy-policy; however, as also outlined in the Information Privacy Policy, no consent or mobile phone numbers will ever be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes that are unaffiliated with the University. WVU will retain your PII in accordance with the WVU Record Retention Policy and Schedule.
Your Rights
All Subscribers have the right to request a correction of incorrect or inaccurate information by contacting Information Technology Services at ITSHelp@mail.wvu.edu. Subscribers located within the European Union may have certain additional rights covered by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). More information about GDPR can be found here.
You can text HELP to 304-293-4444 or 877-327-9260 for assistance. The Service Center will respond with instructions on how to use this Service as well as how to unsubscribe.
You can cancel this Service at any time by texting STOP to 304-293-4444 or 877-327-9260. We will send you a reply message to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. After this, you will no longer receive messages from this Service Center. If you have subscribed to other text alerts provided by another WVU Service Center, you must separately unsubscribe from those.
