The WVU Portal is your gateway to online resources at WVU, including many required to complete your enrollment steps.

To log in to the WVU Portal, you must first claim your account. Details are included in your acceptance email.

Pay the Academic Deposit

The academic deposit saves your place in our incoming class and is required to move forward with housing, math placement and New Student Orientation.

Your academic deposit is fully refundable if you cancel your WVU attendance before May 1 for fall term enrollment and December 1 for spring term enrollment.

Apply for Housing

The WVU housing portal for fall 2025 will open in early December. If you have paid your academic deposit, you will be able to apply for housing or submit a request for an exemption from the First Year Live On Requirement. Students in commuter counties must file the exemption to avoid housing charges. The sooner you apply for housing, the sooner you’ll know where you’ll be living.

Admitted for the spring 2025 term? After paying the academic deposit, you can apply for housing to receive your assignment.

Submit the FAFSA

The 2025-26 FAFSA will be available to students on or before December 1. Our FAFSA priority deadline is March 1. We encourage all students to submit the FAFSA. Our school code is 003827. The FAFSA is required for Federal and State aid programs, and to qualify for the Promise Scholarship for West Virginia residents.

Admitted for the spring 2025 term? The 2024-2025 FAFSA is available.

Take ALEKS Math Assessment

All new first-time freshman students are required are required to take an online math assessment (ALEKS). ALEKS will be available to admitted students at the end of January. There is no additional fee associated with ALEKS.

Admitted for the spring 2025 term? Submit a request to take ALEKS.

Accept or Decline Aid

Check your MIX email for messages from the WVU Hub about financial aid next steps. If you receive an offer, you can review, accept or decline aid through the WVU Portal. Acceptance of scholarships and aid doesn't mean you're required to attend WVU (but you forfeit your award if you cancel your application or attendance).

Complete New Student Orientation

NSO registration for fall 2025 admits opens in March. You must pay your academic deposit and complete the housing application before registering for NSO. Program details will be available when registration opens.

Admitted for the spring 2025 term? You can register for your NSO program now.

Complete Health Insurance Waiver

All students enrolling in 6 or more credits are required to have health insurance coverage. You will be billed for the WVU Aetna health insurance plan unless you opt out by completing the student health insurance waiver.

Admitted for the spring 2025 term? Complete the waiver by December 20 to opt out.

Choose a Dining Plan

Everyone living in campus housing is required to purchase an on-campus student dining plan. Commuters have the option of purchasing an off-campus student plan. Dining plans for the 2025-26 academic year will be available in spring 2025. Students are required to complete their housing application, including those requesting a housing exemption, before choosing a dining plan.

Pay Your Bill

Spring 2025 new students: Your first semester charges will be available in WVU MyAccount (via WVU Portal) in late fall. If you owe a balance you will receive a billing notification and payment deadline in your MIX email.

Fall 2025 new students: In early July, your fall semester charges will be available in WVU MyAccount (via WVU Portal). If you owe a balance, you will receive a billing notification in your MIX email. Payment is due August 1.

Tuition payment plans are available to break up your semester's tuition and fees into smaller, more manageable installments.

Move-in

Move-in registration for fall 2025 opens in early June. Watch your MIX email for additional information. There will be specific days and time slots for move-in to help break up congestion in the halls — details will be sent to your WVU MIX email in early June.

Admitted for the spring 2025 term? Move-in options will appear when you sign up for housing.

Choose a First-Year Trip

Start your college experience like a real Mountaineer. Our optional Adventure WV First-Year Trips are peer-led, adventure-based programs that will prepare you for life at WVU. All trips take place in June, July or August. Registration opens in February 2025.

You must pay your academic deposit before registering for an Adventure WV trip.

Apply for Promise

The Promise Scholarship for West Virginia residents is sponsored by the state of West Virginia. To be considered, you must submit the Promise application and the FAFSA by March 1.

You are automatically considered for WVU scholarships if you are admitted by the scholarship deadline — August 1 for the fall term and January 2 for the spring term. You should also investigate other scholarship sources to help fund your education.
