Mountaineer Timeline
Keep track of important dates and deadlines leading up to your first semester at WVU.
This timeline is for admitted first-time freshmen with a fall term start; spring students are encouraged to contact their WVU Admissions Counselor for assistance.
September
- Schedule a Visit to WVU
In-person, virtual and self-guided options are available, including daily Visitors Center tours and open house events – Visit WVU!
October
- October 1 - Promise Scholarship application available to West Virginia residents.
November
- The Honors College begins reviewing applications.
December
- Early December - Housing applications and selection available to admits who have paid the academic deposit.
- Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Check your WVU Portal and MIX email frequently for important financial aid and merit scholarship details.
January/February
- Connect with your Admissions Counselor and sign up for a one-on-one appointment.
- February - Adventure WV First-Year Trips registration opens. Consider registering!
March
- March 1 - FAFSA priority deadline for WVU.
- Mid-March - New Student Orientation details are sent to admits who have paid the academic deposit.
April/May
- Take the ALEKS math placement assessment.
ALEKS is required of all first-time freshmen prior to meeting with an academic adviser and scheduling courses as part of New Student Orientation. - May 1 - Deadline to cancel for the fall term start and receive a full refund of the academic deposit and partial refund of the housing deposit.
June
- June 1 - Student Insurance Waiver and immunization documentation is available.
- June/July - New Student Orientation
- Dining plans available for selection.
July
- First week of July - Fall charges are applied to your bill and available in WVU MyAccount via your WVU Portal.
- Early July - Tuition Payment Plan is available for the fall semester.
- Watch your MIX email for details about signing up for your residence hall move-in time.
August
- August 1 - Scholarship deadline: Students enrolling in the fall must be admitted by August 1 to be eligible for merit scholarships. Admitted students have until August 1 to submit updates to GPA or test scores. Earlier deadlines may apply for select awards.
- August - Residence hall move-in. Time slots for all residence halls will be available each day.
- August 20 - First day of fall 2025 classes.
