NSO Basecamp

NSO Basecamp is an optional outdoor experience at the WVU Outdoor Education Center. Basecamp takes place the day before your NSO program.

To sign up for Basecamp, select the two-day NSO Basecamp option when you register for NSO.

What to Expect

At NSO Basecamp, you'll spend one day and overnight at the WVU Outdoor Education Center. The next morning, we'll bus you to your NSO program on campus.

Check-in

9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

NSO Basecamp check-in is at the WVU Outdoor Education Center:

Your family can drop you off at the OEC, or you can drive yourself.

Morning Kickoff

9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

  • Meet your Basecamp crew and get settled at the WVU Outdoor Education Center.
  • Morning activities can include meeting other students and guided hikes at Coopers Rock.

Lunch

12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

All dietary restrictions are accommodated if they are reported during the registration process.

Afternoon Adventures

1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

  • Students will have an opportunity to explore Coopers Rock.

  • High Ropes Course Activities:

    • Alpine Tower and Giant Swing
    • Odyssey High Ropes Course
    • Zipline Canopy Tour

Downtime: Settle into Yurts

6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Dinner

7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Campfire Discussion

8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

  • Gather around the campfire for an open, relaxed discussion led by student staff.
  • Hear real stories about transitioning to WVU and tips for making the most of your NSO experience.
  • Get advice and ask questions so you can thrive in your first year.

Evening Downtime

9:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.

  • Relax, play games or hang out with other students.
  • This is your time to connect, laugh and enjoy our space.

Lights Out

10:30 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.

Wake Up and Get Ready for NSO

6:30 a.m. - 7:00 a.m.

Wake up, enjoy a light breakfast and get ready New Student Orientation.

Check out and travel to Morgantown

7:00 a.m. - 7:45 a.m.

Hop on the bus back to WVU! We’ll drop you off at the WVU Coliseum to reunite with your family, organize your things and get ready for NSO. If you drove, follow the buses back and park at the Coliseum.

From there, you and your family will ride a bus to the Mountainlair Student Union for NSO check-in. Get ready to start your WVU adventure with confidence and new friends by your side!
